The Shire boasts a wealth of physcial features including majestic sweeping plains, magnificent stands of Redgum forests and is almost totally surrounded by the mighty Murray River and its tributaries.

The Victorian Minister for Roads and Ports announced in December 2007, that agreement in principle had been reached between the Campaspe and Murray Shires and the Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation (YYNAC), to further investigate the Mid - West route for a second Murray River crossing at Echuca-Moama.
