Further Boost for "Four Post"

Last modified: November 19, 2009 - 10:24 PM

The Four Post Youth Camp on Murray Shire’s boundary with Deniliquin Council continues to grow. Its latest development involves the official opening of a second accommodation block. The block was officially opened on Saturday 12 November 2005 by Federal Member for Murray, Sussan Ley MP. She was supported by Murray Shire Mayor, Brian Sharp and Deniliquin Mayor, Lindsay Renwick.

The new 62-bunk unit brings the Camp’s permanent accommodation level to 120. Additional accommodation under canvas is also available. The block is made up of four-bunk units as well as teacher accommodation, kitchen and toilet facilities. Disabled accommodation is also incorporated into the complex. The block effectively doubles the camp accommodation, enabling it to cater for much larger school groups. It has been booked out since being brought into service at Easter time.
The development was financed by a $107,000 Regional Partnership Grant, supported by a grant and loans from the NSW Department of Lands valued at $103,000. Major regional project partners included Deniliquin Decentralised Demountables, Druitt’s Earthmoving, Deniliquin Steel Fabricators, Menadues Floor Coverings, S&J Homemakers of Echuca and Country Energy. The building was constructed by Deniliquin Decentralised Demountables with Deniliquin builders, Val and Sue Taylor adding decking for the complex.

The Camp’s extension has been made possible by Murray Shire’s action in providing year-round access to the site with the construction of a new bridge over the Four Post Creek. The bridge was officially opened in 2004.
