Murray Shire Council undertakes a number of Principle Activities, identified by Australian Accounting Standard No. 27, which is the standard specifically for Local Government.
A Strategic Objective has been developed for each Principal Activity.
The Principal Activities form the basis of Council's Community Strategic Plan and are further expanded upon in that document.
Murray Shire Council's Principal Activities include the following:
Administration
Strategic Objective: To provide an effective administrative framework as the vehicle for the undertaking of Council's activities in an efficient way, responsive to the pressures and changing demands on Local Government.
Public Order and Safety
Strategic Objective: To provide an effective framework and a level of resources to ensure the maintenance of public order and safety within the Murray Shire.
Community Services and Education
Strategic Objective: To provide and facilitate Community Services and Education facilities that promote the welfare of Murray Shire residents.
Housing and Community Amenities
Strategic Objective: To provide the framework to service housing and community amenities within the Murray Shire.
Water Supplies
Strategic Objective: To provide adequate water services to urban centres within the Murray Shire.
Sewerage Services
Strategic Objective: To provide adequate sewerage services to the towns of Mathoura and Moama.
Recreation and Culture
Strategic Objective: To provide a range of recreation and cultural opportunities to meet the needs of the Murray Shire community.
Mining, Manufacturing and Construction
Strategic Objective: To provide road making material and building control services to meet the needs of the Murray Shire community.
Transport and Communication
Strategic Objective: To provide an adequate and safe transport network within the Murray Shire.
Economic Affairs
Strategic Objective: To realise economic opportunities for the communities within the Murray Shire.
