The Murray Shire is home to some 7,466 residents, covers 4,328km square and is almost totally surrounded by the mighty Murray River and its tributaries.
The Shire's main township is Moama, which is usually paired with its Victorian neighbour, Echuca. Echuca Moama is known as the Paddlesteamer Capital of Australia and is ideally positioned on the NSW and Victorian border at the closet point of the Murray River to Melbourne. This perfect location provides for an area booming with tourism, industry, business development and new residents.
Mathoura, a small country town 40km north of Moama, still retains much of its unique outback heritage and is considered to be a gateway to Australia's largest red gum forest and waterways.
