Murray Shire Council has established an Alcohol Free Zone in Meninya Street/Cobb Highway, Moama from the intersection of Perricoota Road to the Victorian Border for the following special events:
New Years Eve and New Years Day
Southern 80 Ski Race Weekend - Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Easter Weekend - Good Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Easter Monday
An Alcohol Free Zone will apply for 24 hours on each day.
Appropriate signage will be erected to enable adequate promotion to the public in times of the abovementioned special events.
Reasons Supporting an Alcohol Free Zone
Echuca Moama is a significant tourist destination and the abovementioned special events see peak visitation to the area. The community and local Police have experienced significant irresponsible behaviour from the consumption of alcohol in the proposed Zone. The issues have included, but are not limited to, vandalism, violence and littering.
Echuca, Victoria, is an Alcohol Free Zone and the establishment of a Zone in Moama for the abovementioned special events will compliment that which applies to Echuca.
Consultation with Local Police
The local Moama Police Patrol Commander has been consulted and supports the proposal.
